BALEARIC BUZZINGS: A SOUND GUIDE TO THE ISLANDS' INSECT POLLINATORS

A healthy natural environment is buzzing with activity. This innovative field guide describes the buzz (or vibration) produced by the most important sonourous insect species in the Balearic Islands while they perform pollination, trying to capture each particular, unique acoustic mark. Insect pollinators include many more species than your common honeybee: solitary bees, bumblebees, hoverflies, wasps, beetles, butterflies, moths and even ants, most of which are currently in decline and play an essential role in helping plants to achieve fertilization. Through attentive listening, we can now learn about the importance and biodiversity of these insects, raise awareness on the crisis of pollinators and reapproach their study with an exciting, less invasive methodology.
